Little footsteps, big discoveries

Learning Beyond the Kindy Gate

At Rockhampton South Kindergarten, learning extends beyond the Kindy gate. With the beautiful Rockhampton Botanic Gardens nearby, our children have wonderful opportunities to explore nature, enjoy Storytime at the zoo and discover the world around them alongside their friends and educators.

It’s one of the things that makes our Kindy such a special place to grow.

A World of Wonder on Our Doorstep

There is so much to discover when we slow down and see the world through a child’s eyes. A towering tree, an interesting leaf, birds calling overhead or a tiny insect can spark questions, conversations and new ideas.

Our visits to the gardens give children time to look closely, listen, wonder and explore. These shared discoveries create meaningful opportunities for learning, with children’s curiosity helping to guide what happens next.

Storytime and Adventures at the Zoo

Storytime at the zoo adds another layer of excitement to our adventures. Sharing stories surrounded by animals and nature helps connect books, language and imagination with real experiences.

Children return to kindy with plenty to talk about, draw, play and explore further.

Learning on Darumbal Country

Our adventures take place on Darumbal Country. As we explore together, we encourage children to notice, appreciate and care for the land, plants and living things around them.

We acknowledge the Darumbal people as the Traditional Custodians of the land and recognise their continuing connection to Country. Through everyday experiences, we nurture children’s growing respect for Country and understanding that we all have a role in caring for it.

A Special Part of Childhood

We treasure what our location offers: time among the trees, stories at the zoo, learning on Country and adventures shared with friends.

For our children, there is a whole world to explore, just beyond our gate.
